The urge to shop is really the urge for progress
Replace it with more meaningful activities
Many of us shop because it feels like progress. As if we’re taking a step to improve our lives. It’s something that we’re hardwired to do.
But as we all know, stuff beyond basic necessities rarely improves our lives. And the feeling of progress quickly fades away.
Fortunately we can replace shopping with something more meaningful, such as decluttering our wardrobe, cleaning our kitchen, practicing a valuable skill, or working on a passion project.
All of these give the same feeling of progress, but in a far more meaningful and lasting way.
