Often removing is the better option, but we don’t even consider it
We default to adding more when trying to improve our lives
When wanting to improve something in our life, the first (and often only) thing we consider is what we can add to make it better.
What can I buy to make my wardrobe better?
Would this smoothie be a healthy addition to my diet?
Sometimes addition is good, but often removing something is better—and it’s almost always easier.
How about removing something from your wardrobe to wear more of what you’re already enjoying?
Perhaps eating less cookies on weekdays and reducing caffeine affects your overall mood better than adding the smoothie?
Start considering subtraction first, and you’ll see yourself adding less and less.
Love this! I read a book called Subtraction that discussed the psychology of this. Have a good day!
Totally agree!
I do a whole wardrobe clear out once a year. Covid times excluded, if I haven’t worn something in 2 years, unless it is really special, I pass it on. And don’t replace. Very cathartic.
