Modern life is not natural for humans, in many ways. We are living against our own biology. Our bodies and minds are simply not built to handle Big Macs, TikTok, and meaningless busyness.
The end result is mental and physical illness, dissatisfaction, and general misery. Mental well-being is at an all time low in the Western World.
It’s not a difficult concept to grasp. Would a polar bear thrive in the jungle? We are like polar bears that have been born in the jungle, being taught to live a jungle life. We might become skilled at climbing trees and finding bananas, but it never feels right.
But the good news is that:
Life can feel like an incredible adventure and a gift every day.
Waking up every morning full of motivation to make a meaningful impact can be the norm.
We can remain in a state of peace to accept that whatever happens, happens.
Appreciation, energy, purpose, confidence, and ease are all feelings that are within our grasp—no matter our age, achievements, or bank accounts.
They are just not attained through normalized, modern ways of living. No amount of money, fame, travel, clothes, cars, or vacation houses will result in these feelings. Conventional success does not equal a good inner life experience.
We need to live like we’re meant to, in all of our major life areas. It is an absolute requirement for a happy life.
Going against our natural ways in just one area is enough to affect our mental state. But when we look at the list below, we can see that not a single one of them is the default way of life in modern society.
Body
Original Diet — Eating what humans are built for, balancing between processed junk and calorie counting.
Functional Fitness — Regularly moving and training our bodies in natural ways that support everyday life.
Mind
Slow Mindfulness — Slowing things down and actually taking life in with all our senses, moment by moment.
Media Minimalism — Stopping the abuse of our minds with constant dopamine hits.
Environment
Freeing Simplicity — Breaking free from distracting consumerism and clutter.
Nature Immersion — Surrounding ourselves in the natural habitat of humans.
Connections
Deep Relationships — Embracing our social needs and enjoying a shared outlook on life.
Selfless Contribution — Finding purpose and energy from making an impact beyond ourselves.
Once we restore our whole lifestyle back to how we’re meant to live, our life experience completely changes.
It is also after this untangling when we can start fully understanding life.
