Buy this and you’ll be happy.
Travel here and you’ll be happy.
Achieve this and you’ll be happy.
Reach this milestone and you’ll be happy.
The problem isn’t the stuff, the traveling, the accomplishments, or the milestones. A good life doesn’t require living in a hut and never doing anything. And if you force asceticism without the mental work, you’ll just be miserable in a hut.
The problem is the dependency between these things and happiness.
Because the first 4 sentences automatically mean this too:
If I don’t buy this, I won’t be happy.
If I don’t travel here, I won’t be happy.
If I don’t achieve this, I won’t be happy.
If I don’t reach this milestone, I won’t be happy.
Break the dependency and life becomes an adventure where your mental wellbeing isn’t constantly at stake.
The vibe is unmatched. Really a tasteful read friend! =)
I have been practicing Mindfulness meditation for almost 3 years. I considered TM but learned that the two would conflict, so I have stayed with mindfulness...Hoping that I am on the right track.
