When you have a habit of posting on Instagram, for example, it will affect how you start living your life. You’ll subconsciously begin living your life in a more Instagrammable way, meaning that how an activity will look on Instagram plays a part in deciding what you do.
You don’t have to be a professional content creator for this to happen. It’s equally true for people who use social media just for fun—it just happens on a more subconscious level.
Letting your ability to post about it affect what you do—which always happens— makes intrinsic enjoyment less of a deciding factor in living your life. We already live lives with compromises, such as time and money, that prohibit us from living to the fullest. The last thing we need is an additional, unnecessary compromise influencing what we do.
I love this. People will post everywhere on anything just to get likes or attention. I understand social media is helpful to many who can't be with us to see certain events or to post success or losses. But to spend hours watching Tik Tok or posting just for the sake of nothing is a waste of time. I didn't even get Facebook until my kids school only posted on Facebook updates and newsletters. What happened to emails?? It can be exhausting trying to like everyones posts so this year I'm only spending a little time on Facebook. I have a life to live!
I’ve been thinking about this often this week- thank you for this thought provoking message!
